It’s been 4 months since I’ve posted anything and WOW… a lot has happened. I’m not gonna go into extreme detail, but the major life events over the past few months is that I changed jobs and recently ended a relationship. Fast-forward to now… I have a NEW job that I love, and I’m lucky enough to have really great coworkers!

I’ve learned a lot and had experiences that were absolutely necessary for my growth as a person and partner. I’m eternally grateful for that, but I also kind of lost myself along the way. I have a tendency to focus on other people and what they need/what makes them happy instead of creating a space where we both feel valued. My mom always gently reminds me of this by saying “don’t lose your sparkle!” And I finally feel it twinkling back to life.

This is a time of solitude, change, and freedom

I met LaRon (@iamlaron) on Instagram and he suggested we meet up. His work is raw, beautiful, and expressive. I told him that I wanted to focus on dramatic posing, which is out of my comfort zone, but I’m sooo glad I tried something new. My gymnastics days are over but the flexibility definitely came in handy! This is also only the 2nd shoot where I worked with a Stylist (@magdalinedavis) and the clothing was provided for me (!!!) I learned so much from her just by observing her creative process. She thought of tiny details (things I never would’ve considered) that really completed the look. It’s just interesting how even though we all worked together to create a finished product, we still had entirely different individual experiences.

Everyone knows that I’m an ultra girly girl, but I really love that this shoot wasn’t about looking “pretty.” There are a few photos where I’m making expressions that I personally don’t like (because I’m insanely picky and a perfectionist), but the other side of modeling (high fashion, what you see in magazines, etc) really embraces movement, abstract elements, odd posing, and dramatic expressions. With this shoot especially, I feel like I’ve gained a lot more confidence when it comes to trying new things, and also appreciating that I don’t need to look “perfect” in every shot.

I’m really proud of this shoot and I’m incredibly thankful to have been a part of this creative experience. It was the best way to lift my spirits, say goodbye to summer, and release what no longer serves me.
