SCARLET

I LOVE sunlight! It makes me sooo happy and I’m always trying to be in it. One of my favorite things that sometimes happens during shoots (depending on the weather/location) is when the sun makes an appearance in unexpected ways, and the photographer and I can play around with lighting. I didn’t know what “story” I wanted to tell initially with this shoot, but sometimes it’s better to not plan everything out and just see where the creative energy takes you.
We were shooting in different areas of an apartment building and we found this really pretty spot on the staircase. Beauty can be found in everyday objects/structures and staircases are so magnificent (scenes from Titanic, which actually sank on this day 100+ years ago, always come to mind). The marble steps also added an element of drama, so it ended up being the perfect place. Light was coming in from a window and casting shadows onto me, which gave everything a very haunting and melancholy vibe. Even though I’m a pretty upbeat person, I do gravitate towards deeper colors and I love at least trying to capture different emotions.
Ever since my Longwood Gardens shoot, I just want to be around flowers! I received a beautiful bouquet for my birthday in March, and now that' it’s Spring everything is blooming and coming back to life, which is good for creativity and for the soul.
