H A R M O N I A
I haven't been feeling myself lately, and I've really struggled with finding inspiration for my blog posts and creating quality content. The hardest thing about the creative process is experiencing the mental blocks that go along with it. Inspiration is fleeting and isn't always available when you want or need it to be. Inspiration is the feeling of something that's right on the tip of your tongue, yet not matter how much you rack your brain for the concrete thought, just about to claim it, it dissipates... only to wander back to you in its own time, in a different way.
Someone graciously gifted me a Forever 21 gift card for my birthday, and I wanted to wait until it got warmer to use it to go shopping! I absolutely haaate the cold (although, that might have more to do with me not owning any winter-appropriate attire), and I'm happiest when the sun is shining, I have my hair in goddess locs, I'm wearing a woodsy perfume, and I'm running around in a flowy dress.
I marched into Forever 21 with the intention of buying a bright red dress. I LOVE red. It's a powerful color and I very much wanted to feel in charge. Of what...? I'm not entirely sure, but I had a "vision" and my heart was set on it. I went to 2 different stores in hopes of finding something, but I had no such luck and was bummed, so I picked this dress at random. However, as soon as I put it on, my mood instantly brightened!
I felt happy, pretty, and radiant. I felt goddess-like.
Greek mythology is something that has always interested me, however I never had the chance to study it. Out of curiosity, I did a little research to learn more about Greek deities, and I was drawn to a lesser-known goddess named Harmonia (hence the title of this post). Harmonia is the goddess of harmony and concord (she is known as Concordia in Roman mythology), and is the daughter of Ares (god of war, although no affiliation to Aries) and Aphrodite (goddess of love and beauty). Harmonia was wed to Cadmus and was gifted a necklace on her wedding day (known as the Necklace of Harmonia), however it was cursed, bringing nothing but misfortune to all who wore or possessed it.
One of the most interesting concepts about life is that you can feel a connection to things that are entirely outside of the "human realm," like the mystical, spiritual, intangible, and unexplained. My takeaway from the myth, and how I applied it to my life, is that even in times of darkness it's important to find your inner light, and to stay close to things that make you feel happy and radiant.
As long as you stay open, happiness and harmony can be found.
