NICHOLAS K
This might be my favorite collection of NYFW (okay, who am I kidding? I can't choose just one). Nicholas K delivered modern day nomad with a hint of safari wear and themes from the 20s. I love the crisp whites, muted colors, and slouchy silhouettes.
MARISSA WEBB
I discovered
(<--click on these!) through Instagram and instantly fell in love with her style. It's put together without trying too hard, which is exactly what her S/S 15 collection is all about. Although I'm a girly-girl at heart, I love when masculine and feminine elements are combined, and Marissa presented it in such an effortless, wearable way.
J. CREW
For the longest time J.Crew was one of those brands that just flew under my radar, but after reading an article about
in
Harper's Bazaar
and seeing her in an episode of
GIRLS
, I was intrigued and had to know more. I love the combination of neon, neutral, sporty, and sophisticated. Combining unlikely elements and making it work is exactly what J.Crew does best. It's fresh, balanced, innovative, and most importantly,
consistent
.
NANETTE LEPORE
Out of all my spring/summer favorites, this is the collection I could see myself wearing on an everyday basis. It has the perfect balance of print and color.
DAVID TLALE
Born and raised in South Africa, David's creations are heavily influenced by his culture.
I love that he isn't trying to "Americanize" his designs to fit the mainstream standard of what fashion "should be."
This
was a breath of fresh air, and I can't wait to see more of his work in the future.
MICHAEL KORS
As much as I love the over-the-top, mind-bending,
moments of fashion, I appreciate clothing that is wearable too, and Michael Kors delivered just that with this sophistiflirty collection. Not one to stray from the "All American" image, the incorporation of nautical themes with a Mad Men-esque twist combines elements of the past and present.
BCBG MAX AZRIA
The color palette, although predictable, is perfect for the warmer seasons. I love the subtle Asian-inspired theme, combination of warm and cool tones, interesting layering, and how the clothing has so much body and movement.
DIANE VON FURSTENBERG
It wasn't until I watched
House of DVF
on
E!
last fall that I became interested in the brand. While watching the show, I found myself mesmerized by Diane. "Finally," I thought, "a woman I can relate to!" Well, personality-wise (I think our bank accounts would beg to differ). Through her bold designs, she's able to capture the many different moods/personalities of a woman.
MONIQUE LHUILLIER
I've already decided that I want a custom made
wedding dress (a girl can dream, right?). Although feminine and flouncy, her designs have a bit of an edge. I love the different hemlines, silhouettes, fabrics and textures.
AUGUST GETTY
Monochrome is having a moment and I'm absolutely
luh-ving
it. The women's tuxedo (a.k.a Power Suit) is encouraging women to try a "
" look.
TADASHI SHOJI
I'm just picturing
gliding down the Red Carpet in one of these gowns, serving some Regal Realness. To think, that at one point in time, women were expected to only wear floor length dresses is shocking. However, it's always refreshing to see styles of the past revisited, especially when they're executed in such an elegant way.
